"This project must be completed by 10 a.m., December 2. Its contents must be original. We need fresh, exciting, new ideas—the conventional, traditional methods and modes are obsolete. Your goal is a creative way of doing this—anything less will be mediocre and a waste of your time and ours."

People in many walks of life are often presented with assignments such as this. And nearly everybody needs to do creative, original thinking at some time or to some extent.

If one depends on mere human ability to complete a creative assignment, the prospect of coming up with a new approach to a familiar situation can become a discouraging one.
