Who's Doing the Knowing?

Who's doing the knowing? Does mortal man originate thought, or does it come from a higher source? What a difference the right answer to these questions can make in every department of human life! It can give direction toward worthwhile goals, spell the difference between excellence and mediocrity, health and sickness, and instill deep joy and serenity.

Christian Science affirms the Biblical teaching that God is all-knowing and omnipotent, in other words, infinite divine Mind, the only real knower and doer. The material sense bears witness to as many knowers and doers as there are human beings, but the study of Christian Science reveals the real man's actual dependence on God for every thought and act. Each of us individualizes the omniscience and omniaction of the one Mind, and this knowledge can be a priceless asset in the everyday events of human experience.

When faced with seemingly insoluble problems, the engineer, the business executive, or the college student has something at hand much more effective than a limited human sense of mind. He can at once deny the belief of separation from God and claim and realize the real facts of the situation. He may ask himself the question, "Who really is doing the knowing here? Is it a limited personal mind, a false belief that actually is no mind at all, or am I living now in the one divine Mind as its idea and reflecting its intelligence without limit?" Joyous recognition that God and man are indeed one in being can resolve the difficulty.
