"The simplicity that is in Christ"

Although Christian Science reveals the simple, uncomplicated fact that the real universe is spiritual and harmonious, and existing forever within the infinitude of the divine Mind, the implications of this truth are not always readily understood.

In the early stages of his investigation of Christian Science, the student may find its textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, difficult to understand. This is because he is attempting to fit its message into the mold of his previously held convictions regarding science, theology, and medicine. But gradually it dawns on thought that Mrs. Eddy is presenting a wholly spiritual view of God, man, and the universe. One begins to see that Christian Science is here to reeducate the human race. Its mission is to reveal and state in modern, scientific terms the simple, yet deeper, meaning underlying the teachings of Christ Jesus and the workers in the primitive church —in short, to preserve and make clear "the simplicity that is in Christ" II Cor. 11:3; of which Paul speaks.

As one gains experience through the study and practice of this Science, its basic simplicity becomes more apparent. Spiritual reality is gradually seen as a unity of good. In other words, we begin to understand that all real identities, although uniquely distinct, are one in substance, Life, and intelligence. They are not part of a complicated material system but spiritual ideas embraced in the omnipresence of pure Spirit, or divine Love. Mrs. Eddy states forth-rightly, "The infinite is one, and this one is Spirit; Spirit is God, and this God is infinite good." She then adds, "This simple statement of oneness is the only possible correct version of Christian Science." The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 356;
