Reversing the Fable Pro or Con
Do we sometimes consider a disappointment final, as though some invisible computer has processed our desires and come out with a coldly uncompromising No?
Surely it is humanly natural to feel that something that fulfills itself in accordance with our cherished plans and hopes is indeed a pro and that something that goes quite counter to them is a disappointing con. Yet our loving Father's supremely satisfying and sometimes wholly surprising way always involves important spiritual growing and stretching, a transformation of motive and attitude essential to our true progress.
In the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy writes, "If you wish to know the spiritual fact, you can discover it by reversing the material fable, be the fable pro or con,— be it in accord with your preconceptions or utterly contrary to them." Science and Health, p. 129;
