A great deal is said today about the problems of young people. Sweeping generalizations are often made so readily that the impression is given that the majority of young people are irresponsible and decadent. This is far from the case and indeed we can rejoice in the quality of life, ability and initiative of a good proportion of young people. There have always been problems among the young, and the main difference is that now they are not repressed as they used to be and maybe they are different. This is inevitable because we live in a very different world. Their problems reflect the characteristics of the society of which they are a part, and often in a most dramatic way. . . .

Society as a whole needs to be concerned; society is largely responsible for what is happening, and society has the remedy in its own hands. Behind the drug taking . . . and other practices lies the desire for spiritual experience. The human being is . . . first and foremost a spiritual being, and this must find expression. . . .
