The Right Road

Many of us are familiar with Robert Frost's poem "The Road Not Taken," in which he describes a crucial decision he had to make. Perhaps we too have come to a fork in the road in our academic work or career. We may feel frustrated, or fearful about the result of our final decision. Can we be sure of taking the right road?

Heartfelt prayer for God's guidance can help. This kind of prayer was best expressed by Christ Jesus, who prayed, "Not my will, but thine, be done." Luke 22:42; Getting human will and our personal sense of responsibility out of the way is the first step in taking the right road to harmony.

Christian Science teaches that God is divine Principle, governing His creation and adjusting all things. As we declare and understand God as the divine Principle of our lives, of every aspect of our experience, we can begin to relieve ourselves of needless fear and anxiety. Certainly we cannot force God's will. But striving to tune in to it and never fearing the consequences, no matter how high the stakes are, will ensure us of divine guidance. We may then choose what seems to us to be the best way, and even if it isn't, God will never permit us to continue in error. Man, God's beloved idea, is always under God's direction. And man means my true self and yours.
