A House in the Country

It was lunchtime.

Tom hurried home from junior high, threading his way down the busy street. These forty minutes always seemed terribly short. During lunch he and his mother would discuss the latest progress on the new house they were building in the country.

As they sat down to eat, Tom saw a serious look on his mother's face.
