Our Ever Friend
Much that has been written on the subject of friendship is poetic and beautiful. Surely steadfast and enduring friendship is to be cherished beyond measure. But the best of human relationships are fragile. Mrs. Eddy recognized this when she observed, "There are no greater miracles known to earth than perfection and an unbroken friendship." Retrospection and Introspection, p. 80;
Human friends may desert and disappoint us or pass from our experience, but our greatest friend, our heavenly Father, is ever with us. There is nothing miraculous or tenuous in His love and constancy. A verse from the Christian Science Hymnal acknowledges this ultimate friendship in these words:
