Some years ago my husband was employed by the Government...

Some years ago my husband was employed by the Government and worked at night for months at a time. Our little daughter was just three years old and, of course, retired early in the evening. This gave me many evenings alone. One night I felt impelled to read my copy of the New Testament in which all the words of Christ Jesus were printed in red. I had a sincere desire to understand his words. This study gave me much comfort, and a few months later a relative came to visit and brought Christian Science to us. In Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy I found the key to the Scriptures. I felt that this was a definite answer to my prayer, and great blessings followed.

I would like to share a particular experience that has always been outstanding to me. When I was in my teens, I had a growth on my right shoulder removed by surgery. It was necessary to have my arm in a sling for two weeks, and later, when it bothered me, I had radium treatments. Later in life it became painful again, and I went to see the company doctor where I was working. He assured me that it was all right, and then proceeded to describe the malignant type of growth. Little did I know at that time how I had accepted this picture. About a year before I knew of Christian Science just such a growth appeared on my left shoulder.

I had not thought of this when I began to study Science but was so excited about this new truth that I spent every moment I could with the textbook, Science and Health. I do remember mentioning to my husband a short time after I began to study that I felt the growth was getting smaller. His answer was, "Well, I know that there is a lot to Christian Science, but let's not let our imagination run away with us." I never really thought of it again for a week or more and then realized the growth was completely gone, leaving no trace.
