A Job Well Done

There is immense satisfaction in doing a job well. Even though our work may seem inconsequential, even menial, a conscious attempt to express perfection in each detail will lift it above the humdrum and pay a rich dividend in genuine self-respect.

However, Christ Jesus' admonition "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect" Matt. 5:48; indicates that striving for perfection of thought and act has a deeper root than just a positive approach to our duties. It is a demand of God, invariable divine Principle, and the more implicit our obedience, the more harmony and satisfaction will be ours.

From the Middle Ages right down to fairly recent times, the craftsman and his love of excellence has earned the respect of all. But the age of mass production has somewhat tarnished this image. Several months ago a prominent news magazine published an in-depth discussion of the growing inefficiency that is plaguing America. It described how carelessness and poor workmanship are causing widespread inconvenience to owners of autos and household appliances. Many consumer products not only give trouble when they are brand new but continue to malfunction after being repeatedly repaired.
