Signs of the Times

Letter from George Walker Risley, Derby, England
in the Daily Telegraph and Morning Post
London, England

It is asked in the "Search for a modern morality"—"Should the Ten Commandments then still be the foundation of our moral code?" Perhaps a fuller interpretation of the Ten Commandments might make it easier for some to re-discover their lost faith. To remove the masculine personality from Deity by accepting the New Testament declaration that "God is Spirit" and "God is Love" would bring the presence of God closer to oneself, Spirit being the activity which is Life, and Love expresses a purpose in living.

To render more fully "Thou shalt not kill" as "Thou shalt not hate anyone," because hate kills love, might alert in many a wider charity of thought towards others in our daily round. "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour" could be amplified to mean that one will not see in man any other than the man of God's perfect creation.
