The Mystery of Death Destroyed
Christ Jesus destroyed the mystery of death. He raised the dead, and he returned from his own tomb, showing that what mortals call death does not mean the extinction of the individual. These startling proofs of life's indestructibility showed, among other things, that death is merely an incident in human experience, that the material sense of life extends beyond death until it is dissolved by the power of Christ, or Truth.
Deliberately and compassionately the master Christian went about his great mission of proving deathless being. He said of his own life: "No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again." John 10: 18:
Jesus' return from the tomb with his body unchanged by the experience of the cross should have dispelled the mystery of death for all time. But people forgot that lesson or perhaps never understood it. And many still believe that death is the end of the physical sense of body. Christian Science does not agree with this theory. Mary Baker Eddy says in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, "Mortals waken from the dream of death with bodies unseen by those who think that they bury the body." Science and Health, p. 429;
