THE GATE CALLED BEAUTIFUL

Acts 3:1-10

Today the sentinels are unaware
At the gate called Beautiful a host is heeding
The ancient dialogue left on the air—
Peter's response, at the gate, to the lame man's pleading:
"Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have
Give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth
Rise up and walk." And he was healed. But the waves
Of the sound widened out into silence then; the path
Lost purpose; the keepers closed and locked that gate.
A Messiah will come—they rehearsed the ancient vow—
To open wide its doors; let the centuries wait.
But the gate called Beautiful is open now.
For blind men see, and deaf and dumb men talk,
In the name of Jesus Christ—we rise and walk.
