Easter sermon
Excerpts from an Easter sermon by The Reverend Frederick C. Wood, Jr. given at Vassar College Poughkeepsie, New York
The Spirit which was in Christ is alive. It is effective and operative in the world. It could not and cannot be killed....
In a time when our focus is so much on our present dilemma and problems, when the cry and the demand of the powerless, the unfree, the victims of injustice and violence (whether they be students, minority groups, races, or nations) is Power Now! Freedom Now! Peace Now! Justice Now! —in such a time, it may be appropriate to remember that the basic proclamation (not demand!) of Christianity is also present. It is Eternity Now! And a proper understanding of eternal life includes all of these other values which we are so concerned about —power (which really means control over one's own life and destiny), freedom, peace, and justice.
