"There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus" (Gal. 3:28). Ever since the true spiritual meaning of this statement was revealed to me through the consecrated study of Christian Science, I have been forced to prove it many times.

My devout religious parents taught me never to hate anyone. I also was taught that members of my race should never trust the Caucasian race, for the white man's hatred for the Negro was such that no matter how intelligent, decent, and loving a Negro became, he would still be hated by the Caucasian race.

I lived in this little narrow-minded, secluded world until my junior year in high school, when I went to a distant city where I had to attend an integrated school. I was panic stricken; and although two schoolmates of the Caucasian race went out of their way to be friends with me, I rebuffed them with the thought "You can't be trusted."
