TESTIMONY MEETINGS

Meetings at which testimonies of Christian Science healing are given, are held in Christian Science churches on Wednesdays. A cordial invitation to attend these meetings, as well as the Sunday services, is extended to all. Information telling where and when these are held is given in the Directory in The Christian Science Journal.

CHRISTIAN SCIENCE SERVICES ON SHIPBOARD

[Reprinted from the "Christian Science Sentinel," May 15, 1965]

In previous issues of the Sentinel, attention has been drawn to the opportunity afforded Christian Scientists who travel on ocean-going liners to bring healing and comfort to others through a Christian Science church service held on shipboard.

Application for this privilege should be made to the purser of the ship. One usually finds that the purser is pleased to allot a time and place for the service and to place a notice on the bulletin boards.

The Order of Sunday Services given on page 120 of the Manual of The Mother Church by Mary Baker Eddy should be followed, and the current Lesson-Sermon from the Christian Science Quarterly should be read. If it is not possible, however, to arrange for a solo, Item No. 6 of the service would have to be omitted. On some of the large ships, copies of the Christian Science Hymnal can be borrowed from the ship's library.

At Item No. 5 of the Order of Sunday Services a brief statement might be made to the effect that the service is being held in accordance with the Order of Services in The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, and its branches, as given in the Manual. If a collection is taken, it may be considered orderly and courteous to hand the proceeds to the ship's purser with a request that it be given to a seamen's charity selected by the captain of the ship. It is a good procedure to have Christian Science periodicals available and display them at each service so that those who attend may take some to read.

Wednesday evening testimony meetings are not so frequently arranged for on shipboard, but if the opportunity occurs, arrangements may be made through the purser similar to those made for the Sunday services. The Order of Wednesday Meetings, given on page 122 of the Church Manual, should be strictly adhered to.
