I can think of no greater legacy than the one my parents gave me. They taught me to know and love Christian Science. With firmness and affection they taught my brother and me by daily instruction and guidance. Their own exemplary lives lent conviction to what they were teaching. And now in later years my wife supplies me with similar support by her deep devotion to Christian Science and her dedicated skill in its application.
Many are the experiences I could tell in which Science has sustained, guided, and healed me.
There was the time that I wrenched my knee and it was healed in a matter of minutes. At another time I suffered from intense internal pain that confined me to my bed. I was up and back at work in two days. That was almost ten years ago, and there has been no return of this trouble. Again, when I fell heavily on an icy sidewalk, cutting my head, prompt, firm Christian Science treatment enabled me to get up and walk to my car. I suffered no bad aftereffects.
There was the time I arrived at college, a college for the sons and daughters of Christian Scientists, after hitchhiking more than a thousand miles with only three dollars left in my pocket. Upon arrival I learned that a telegram had been sent to my home, reaching there after I left, inviting me to return to college and offering me a scholarship and a job. This was during the period of the great depression. My parents had told me that they could help me that year with an amount which equaled only 30 percent of the board, room, and tuition fees. So I had intended to spend part or all of that year working in the vicinity of the college instead of going to school.
It turned out that the scholarship amounted to 25 percent of the amount needed, the job 45 percent, and my parents' help 30 percent. The total need was supplied. As I walked onto the campus that morning, almost the first person I met was the President of the college, who exclaimed: "You received our telegram! I'm surprised to see you so soon!" I had not received the telegram, and only then did I learn about the job and the scholarship. And here I was, right on the doorstep ready to go to work and to classes! And I was there more promptly than if I had remained at home until the telegram arrived. Throughout that summer I had dealt with the nagging specter of lack of funds with the firm assurance that God would place me that fall where I could receive the most good and where I could give the most good. I have since learned that this kind of quiet confidence in God's care is true prayer and a high form and effective method of Christian Science treatment.
Then there was the time we started our own business. Our finances were at a desperately low ebb. We had practically no capital and only a slight amount of experience in this particular field of endeavor. The business grew and prospered beyond our highest expectations and provided an abundant income. Problem after problem was met through Christian Science. Technical know-how was acquired. Skill and ingenuity in advertising and sales promotion were developed, and acumen was achieved in matters of finance, credit, collections, and legal affairs.
My business experience verifies Mrs. Eddy's statement (Science and Health, p. 128): "from this it follows that business men and cultured scholars have found that Christian Science enhances their endurance and mental powers, enlarges their perception of character, gives them acuteness and comprehensiveness and an ability to exceed their ordinary capacity."
I am grateful beyond measure for Christian Science.

I would like to verify my husband's testimony and to express my gratitude for the firmness and strength he has expressed in the application of Christian Science to his business experience. It has been a joy to observe and to share the results. The experiences gained from the application of Christian Science to the many and varied business problems led him to serve the public as a Christian Science practitioner.
