RADIO PROGRAM NO. 354 - Holding On versus Dropping Out

[The speaker is Harvey Wood. The questioner is Robert McKinnon.]

Questioner: A young person looks forward to his first big job. But sometimes he becomes disillusioned when the job doesn't measure up to his expectations. What does he do then? Stick it out or become a job dropout statistic?
Speaker: Haven't we all, many times, wanted to quit? But through this type of trying experience I've learned one very important thing. By turning to God we can learn to master frustrating or adverse circumstances before they master us.

Here's where the teachings of Christ Jesus are so valuable. He mastered adversities and showed us how we too can be masters of and not servants to situations. I think the big impact of Jesus' teachings is that the liberating power of God is available right now to all of us.
Questioner: But you're not denying, are you, that many new employees do get terribly disillusioned and stifled because they feel that they have only the very bleak prospect of spending many months or years in dull, meaningless jobs?
Speaker: Of course not. But when we let the circumstances dictate to us, the question arises, Who's in charge?
