Doing, Not Trying!

"The longest journey begins with a single step." I was reminded of this old saying while I was in a Christian Science practitioner's office. Her telephone rang, and in the brief conversation that followed she remarked, "Now, dear, we are not trying to demonstrate the truth; we are demonstrating it!"

After I left the office, the words of the practitioner kept coming back to me with renewed interest. I realized that however protracted the journey from the material sense of existence to Soul, God, every spiritually mental footstep the individual takes is both necessary and effective in bringing him nearer his final goal.

And what is his final goal? Is it not to rise so completely above the false belief of life as material that the individual will be aware only of spiritual reality? Is it not to understand so fully that God is Spirit and that he himself and all others are spiritual offspring of the one Father-Mother that he perceives every individual in the entire universe as a spiritual idea in the one divine Mind?
