Who Governs the Earth?

God governs. We learn through the study of Christian Science that He governs all by governing Himself, His own perfect, infinite being, which exists wherever space seems to be. By maintaining Himself in a continuous state of harmony and perfection, by always expressing unerring intelligence and wisdom and love, He maintains His universe in this way. His universe, which is the outcome of His being, is peopled by multifarious reflections of Himself. These reflections are showing forth what God is doing. Therefore the universe of perfect reflections, inseparable from their perfect source, is being governed perfectly.

As Christian Scientists we need to see the evidence of this perfect government expressed first in our individual lives and then in the world around us, taking form as good human government at all levels of jurisdiction. Because God is All and expresses Himself right where the human experience seems to be, we have the right to claim the power of this true government for ourselves, our country, and the world. We can expect to see this evidenced in the degree that we have really accepted the presence of God's government as being the only government and have absolutely no reservation about it and no belief of an opposing force or power.

Mortal mind would like to persuade us that the mortally mental picture that represents itself as a government of persons holding official positions is something extraneous to ourselves. It suggests an external condition over which we can have little or no control beyond our single vote in the ballot box or our individual protest as to policy. But understanding that humanly speaking we can see and experience only the objectification of beliefs that seem to be our own changes this limiting concept. It gives us the realization and conviction that as one really understands the concept of God governing perfectly everywhere, he can aid measurably in demonstrating good government in his own individual experience and in the world at large.
