Since we are in so many respects like a family, we may say with some conviction that the keys to the future of mankind are the same as those with which we may unlock the potential of the family itself. ... Like the family, we need to accommodate ourselves to diversity. "People are more different than anybody," we used to say, in explanation of some particular bit of frivolous human behavior— and they are. Those of us who continue to expect a consensus to emerge to which all men can happily conform are simply deluding ourselves. The title of a filmstrip for children, "A World of Happy Differences," more aptly describes the true goal of family (or world) unity...
