Many years ago my grandmother was searching for a religion that would satisfy her and answer her questions. About this time Mary Baker Eddy sent a worker to Detroit to introduce Christian Science. My grandmother went to hear her speak and became a Christian Scientist.

My mother was not interested at first, but later when three physicians could do no more for me, the help of a Christian Science practitioner was asked. The practitioner's understanding of God and her prayerful work for me healed me quickly of paralysis of the bowels and other organs. I was able to be up and around the day after absent treatment was begun, and within the week I walked three blocks to a streetcar and visited the practitioner.

Other healings took place at this time also. My mother had suffered many years from chronic tonsillitis, and I was supposed to have inherited this disease. We were both healed, and although I had spent much of each winter in bed, the one following my healing I was free and joined my friends in winter sports. Physicians had said I could never be better unless my tonsils were removed. They never have been removed, and in spite of an extreme case of diphtheria I suffered, we stood firmly with the truth. I was healed of the diphtheria in Science, and that was the end of the throat trouble as well. After this healing it was not unusual for me to go through an entire winter without even a cold.
