Individual Completeness

A sense of completeness and fulfillment is desired by everyone. Christian Science teaches that these qualities are inherent in the man of God's creating and that, as the Bible says, "Whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it."  Eccl. 3:14; An understanding of this truth can satisfy these deep longings within the human heart.

Because humanity is divided into men and women, we have attributed certain qualities to each, and the general conclusion has followed in the minds of many people that through marriage these qualities are combined and completeness is thereby established. While this may seem to be a solution for a time, there comes into everyone's experience an eventual need for individual completeness. The ultimate answer can be found only in an understanding of God and of man's relationship to Him.

The Bible tells us that "God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." Gen. 1:27; And in Science and Health Mrs. Eddy writes: "To emphasize this momentous thought, it is repeated that God made man in His own image, to reflect the divine Spirit. It follows that man is a generic term. Masculine, feminine, and neuter genders are human concepts."  Science and Health, p. 516; The scientific completeness of each individual, who, in his real being, is made in the image and likeness of God, is more readily understood in the light of the teachings of Christian Science, in which one learns of the motherhood of God as well as of His fatherhood. A natural conclusion follows that both feminine and masculine qualities are present in every child of the one Father-Mother.
