Youth and the Home

[For parents]

Recently a mother stood at the window looking out into the night. One of the children had been given permission to attend a party with the understanding that he would be home by midnight. At one o'clock in the morning her son had not come home, and many anxious thoughts crowded into the mother's consciousness as tears of helplessness and disappointment came to her eyes. Why had this boy betrayed her trust in him? What had happened to him?

The members of this family are Christian Scientists. And even while she was engulfed in dismay and fear, Love was calling out to her, "What is mortal mind tempting you to believe?" Awakened by this angel message, the mother left her vigil at the window to study and pray.

As she turned her thought away from the picture of a disobedient, irresponsible mortal, she endeavored to fill her consciousness with what she knew to be true of God and of His idea, man. She reasoned that God is good and fills all space and that therefore man, His spiritual image and likeness, is good, surrounded by His protecting presence. She knew that no matter what situation one finds himself in, right there are angel messages to guide and direct him. She realized that none of God's children, including her son, could be tempted with evil, because evil in any form is a lie and that the truth she was knowing would bring her peace.
