I should like to tell of a healing adjustment in an office situation
I should like to tell of a healing adjustment in an office situation. The office where I was employed for several years had, to my way of thinking, become a nightmare. I had thought many times of going elsewhere but was encouraged to stay and heal the situation through Christian Science.
It became necessary for me to be away from the office for more than a month. The day I left, my desk was moved to another office, and I was delighted as it promised to lie more quiet. Upon returning I was told to report to my former office because a reorganization during my absence had canceled the move. I was shocked and unhappy. However, that morning I had studied the Lesson-Sermon with more inspiration than usual. While walking to work, I had declared over and over, "Thy will be done" (Matt. 6:10). It was preparation, for in my thinking I was somehow conscious of a change taking place.
When told I was to be back in the former office, I was not resentful; hurt, yes, but nothing like I would have been had I not been a student of Christian Science. I obediently reported to the chief of the division and told him my story. He seemed as much surprised as I but accepted me graciously, for which I was grateful. I was placed with a person whom I had never seemed able to like, but she showed me love and respect and was very helpful in teaching me the new work. My co-workers were considerate and loving. The work was more interesting, and I was happier than I had ever been since working in an office.
