"I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage" (Ex. 20:2).

By means of this testimony I wish to express my gratitude to God and to Christian Science for having freed me from addiction to drugs and from prison. In 1963 I was arrested and taken to the California Rehabilitation Center so that I might submit to treatments for drug addiction. I was already familiar with the therapeutic system used in those places as this was not the first time I had been in jails or prisons. This time, nevertheless, while I was contemplating my situation, it occurred to me that in all the time I had spent in these places, I had never known or heard it said that any student of Christian Science had found himself in similar difficulties.

After thinking about this for a long time, I decided to talk with the Christian Science Field Worker about my problem and ask him to help me. During our conversation he asked me whether I had ever been helped through Christian Science. I replied that I never had been, as I did not know how it worked. Before I left, the worker promised to help me. The following week he presented me with the Spanish translation of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, and I commenced to read.
