"Scientific obstetrics"
In the allegorical account of creation beginning in the second chapter of Genesis, the judgment, "In sorrow thou shalt bring forth children," Gen. 3:16; is supposed to have been laid on Eve, the mother of all mankind, by a wrathful Lord God. In contrast, the enlightened prophet Isaiah depicts the compassion of a tender, loving Father-Mother God in the Scriptural promise, "He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young." Isa. 40:11;
Christian Science, receiving its authority from the inspired Word of the Bible, offers comfort and practical help to parents by revealing the spiritual truth of birth that dispels material falsities. True birth is the appearing of Truth in consciousness. It is the revelation in thought of the divine idea that the child of God is not an infant, youth, or adult but a spiritual idea, forever at the standpoint of perfection. The spiritual fact of birth, when understandingly applied, will lift and improve what appears to be the human process of pregnancy and birth by removing the fears and limitations often associated with it.
We read in the Bible God's promise, "I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you." 46:4; The understanding of God as the only creator, provider, supporter, and deliverer frees the individual from much of the pride and false responsibility that claims to go along with human parentage. Under the marginal heading "Spiritual origin," Mrs. Eddy writes in the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health: "In Science man is the offspring of Spirit. The beautiful, good, and pure constitute his ancestry. His origin is not, like that of mortals, in brute instinct, nor does he pass through material conditions prior to reaching intelligence. Spirit is his primitive and ultimate source of being; God is his Father, and Life is the law of his being." Science and Health, p. 63;
