Deep gratitude for Christian Science fills my heart in realizing that the continuous harmony and joy in our homes and lives is the direct outcome of our understanding and use of this most practical religion.

Two summers ago my husband and I were spending some time near a beach in Southern California, and we decided to take the opportunity to have him teach me how to surf. About the fourth evening I was trying to stand up on the board when, all of a sudden, I lost my balance, fell into the water, and was hit in the face by the board that was being swept inland by the force of the wave. My husband had observed the incident and came right in to help me up to the beach. Immediately we prayed to see as unreal any possibility of an accident or evil occurrence by understanding that the one Mind, God, is ever present, and that therefore we are always held in the arms of divine Love.

There were symptoms of a concussion, accompanied by excessive bleeding in the face and swelling. We returned to our motel room to be alone, in order to shut out mortal mind with its fears and laws. Hymn No. 182 in the Christian Science Hymnal instructs us to
