Many years ago I expressed my gratitude in our periodicals for the setting of a broken bone in our daughter's shoulder through mental surgery alone. I have experienced the healing power of Christian Science in situations too numerous to recount. However, one healing in particular stands out for its lesson in humility, obedience, and love.

I had been suffering intermittently from discords the medical faculty attribute to a certain period of life, but to all appearances I had been living normally. Then came the day when I was totally disabled from extreme exhaustion and a painful heart condition. I could not sleep and was unable to hold to an idea of Truth long enough to gain any peace or comfort.

A Christian Science practitioner worked earnestly for me. She encouraged me to cling to short declarations of Truth, such as "God is here," "God is the only power." This I did to the best of my ability and understanding. Then she asked me to take one section only of the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly each day and assimilate what I could. This short definite outline of study began to discipline my thinking so that I was soon able to finish the entire lesson. But there was much fear to be overcome.
