Retirement from What?
Retirement generally denotes a withdrawing from one's lifetime occupation, a falling back, a retreat. But what is man's occupation?
In Isaiah we read, "Ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, and my servant whom I have chosen." Isa. 43:10; Man is that witness, and he exists to furnish proof of God's presence and to glorify Him. Man's witnessing cannot falter, slow down, and then abruptly come to a halt. The quality, vigor, and continuity of man's being depend on Mind alone, not on the number of a human being's years on earth.
Mrs. Eddy says: "God, without the image and likeness of Himself, would be a nonentity, or Mind unexpressed. He would be without a witness or proof of His own nature. Spiritual man is the image or idea of God, an idea which cannot be lost nor separated from its divine Principle." Science and Health, p. 303;
