No Chemical Shortcut to Inspiration

Mrs. Eddy says, "The infinite is one, and this one is Spirit; Spirit is God, and this God is infinite good."The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 356; Then she continues, "This simple statement of oneness is the only possible correct version of Christian Science."

We learn from Christian Science that the basis of all truth is the indivisible oneness and allness of God, that reality is one infinite divine Mind including within itself its universe of perfect, spiritual thoughts or ideas. This forever fact of being when understood is seen as the Principle back of all genuine spiritual healing. It refutes and destroys the seeming power of evil, for if God is One and All, there can be no room for anything opposed to or unlike the divine nature.

Recently it has been claimed that a sense of oneness with the universe may be attained through the use of psychedelic drugs, that there is a chemical shortcut to the vision of reality. This claim that Truth comes in a capsule form is just another of animal magnetism's subtle forms of persuasion. It argues that there is an easy way to the mount of revelation, that, after all, we do not really need to practice integrity and self-discipline. All we need to do is swallow a drug, and presto! The kingdom of heaven is at hand!
