Although I was reared in Christian Science, my appreciation...

Although I was reared in Christian Science, my appreciation and application of it did not begin until I was in high school and my mother was healed in Science when she was gravely ill. That healing proved to me that Christian Science is true and demonstrable, and I began thinking about my religion in earnest.

The first healing I had as a result of my own prayer was that of a wart on my finger. I was very conscious of the presence of the wart; but, upon reading a testimony in the Sentinel concerning the healing of a wart, I realized that since God had made him wholly beautiful and pure, man cannot manifest anything ugly or unsightly. Thereafter I refused to acknowledge the wart as a reality or even to look at the physical evidence. Several days later I saw that the wart had vanished.

Through the application of Christian Science I was able to follow Love's direction in choosing the right college, although the college chosen seemed out of my family's range financially. I was encouraged by this statement of Mrs. Eddy's (Science and Health, p. 199): "The devotion of thought to an honest achievement makes the achievement possible."
