Listen and Obey

Christ Jesus, our Way-shower, listened to and obeyed only God. He said, "As I hear, I judge." John 5:30; And elsewhere in the Bible we read: "I will hear what God the Lord will speak," Ps. 85:8; and, "The Lord our God will we serve, and his voice will we obey." Josh. 24:24; How are we to recognize God's voice as Jesus did? How shall we hear Him speak? God is always speaking to us through His thoughts, His spiritual ideas, which we possess as His image and likeness.

Each good thought we entertain is an acknowledgment of the ever-present Christ, Truth, of which Mrs. Eddy writes, "Christ is the true idea voicing good, the divine message from God to men speaking to the human consciousness." Science and Health, p. 332; We learn through Christian Science how to discern between Truth's message and the erroneous suggestions of the carnal, or mortal, mind. Thus we may form the rewarding habit of listening for God, the one infinite and all-knowing Mind, to speak to us.

Do we sometimes wonder why we are not progressing faster, why our demonstrations are uncertain, doubtful, or protracted? Let us examine the quality of our thinking and note particularly what we are listening to and letting into our thinking as real. Let us be ever alert not to give ear to thoughtless, frequently gossipy suggestions, such as, "Have you heard?" or, "Somebody told me," and all worthless rehearsals of sin or sickness, all that would distract us from heeding only God's voice.
