One day while doing some cooking, I severely burned my whole face and left arm. I held to the truth that there are no accidents in divine Mind, but then I realized I needed help. Although I could not see clearly, I was able to go to my next-door neighbor, who lovingly led me back home.

At my request she telephoned my teacher in Christian Science, who declared, "The three Hebrews were thrown into the fiery furnace, and they came out without even the smell of smoke; and you will too, and there won't be a spot or a blemish." I believed what he told me, and it did not even enter my thought to work out the problem in any way other than through Christian Science.

The dear neighbor, though not a student of Science, next telephoned a Christian Science nurse at my request. The nurse came in about an hour and was very helpful. Within just a short time the pain had almost ceased, but my eyes were still affected.

On the second day the tear ducts worked overtime, and the nurse called to report the condition to my teacher, who urged me to study the counsel of Jesus to Nicodemus in the third chapter of the Gospel of John. There we read of the necessity of regeneration. Jesus said (verse 3), "Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." I put forth the effort to get rid of all wrong thinking and to spiritualize my thought. The next morning the tears had stopped.

The third day my teacher and I worked closely with Jesus' statement in Matthew (17:11), "Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things." The nurse wanted to go to her home to pick up her mail; so my husband, who is not a church member but very kindly disposed to Christian Science, took care of me.

The condition became so real to him that he asked if he might use boric acid and water on my eyes. I told him he had better call my teacher. He did so and was told the Shepherd was doing the cleansing. The fear was handled in my husband's thought, and this was helpful to me.

There was a Christian Science lecture being given on the fifth day after the incident, and the same neighbor took me. It was very helpful, for the lecturer told of a healing almost like the one I was working out. I was able to release the nurse in four days, and the help of my teacher in three weeks. It took a few more weeks before I felt I should read, and I had to wear dark glasses for some time. But this was a wonderful opportunity to put into practice what I already knew from earlier study. After several months the healing was complete.

I am grateful for Christ Jesus, for Mrs. Eddy and her teaching, and for the help of my teacher and the nurse. One of God's promises, in the Psalmist's words, is (91:15), "He shall call upon me, and I will answer him." My prayer is that I may understand God's Word and be able to help others.
