Although I had relied on Christian Science for the healing...

Although I had relied on Christian Science for the healing of physical difficulties and for the solution of many other types of problems, I had gone to dentists more or less regularly through the years and had had numerous fillings of cavities. A number of years ago a Christian Science practitioner encouraged me to rely on Science in connection with my teeth, just as I had relied on it for everything else. I earnestly wanted to do this, for I have always loved Christian Science above everything. Whatever would involve growth in spiritual understanding and better equip me to be of help to others was important to me.

Finally I made no more appointments with the dentist, and I declared spiritual truths whenever I thought of my teeth and often when I brushed them. In Mrs. Eddy's writings there are many wonderful references to substance that were helpful, and testimonies in the periodicals about teeth were encouraging. I endeavored to know that divine Love fills all space, that there is no decay in Love, and that every part of man's being is spiritual. I knew there is nothing that God cannot do for us.

When I saw television advertising which presented predictions of tooth decay, and when I was confronted with other aggressive suggestions regarding teeth, I took a radical stand against such theories and endeavored to keep my thought in line with spiritual truth. I had to stop believing that foods could cause decay and being concerned if I didn't get to brush my teeth immediately after eating. I learned to brush my teeth for cleanliness only, not to prevent decay.
