I awakened one morning with the feeling that a change had taken place, and when I saw that my husband was speaking to me and that I heard absolutely nothing of what he said, I realized that I was deaf. At first I was full of fear, but very quickly I realized that the only thing I had to do was to work and pray as Christian Science teaches us.

For nearly three weeks I studied the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and other writings on Christian Science at every moment; and I prayed during the night when I felt the need.

My husband was often absent in the afternoon, and I then played the records of hymns by Mrs. Eddy. I would put my ear to the loudspeaker to hear them better. Being the only sound that I could hear, although only faintly, it was nevertheless sufficient to keep me alert and give me courage in God alone.

On Christmas morning we had prepared the tree for our grandchildren, when suddenly I asked my husband not to shout so loudly in my ears. He replied, thrilled with joy, "You can hear again!" I answered with tears in my eyes: "Yes, it's absolutely wonderful; I praise God with all my heart and with all my soul! It is the most beautiful gift that I have ever received for Christmas."

For several days I lived in a world of peace and joy, feeling the presence and the love of God wherever I went, and I praised and glorified the goodness of the Lord by my prayers and my actions. Once again I had had proof that God is infinitely good and that error is nothing and must disappear before Truth, which is All-in-all. Because of this victory of good over evil, I am humbly and immeasurably grateful to know about Christian Science.
