The Crowing Cockerel
Occasionally I pass a school playground on the wall of which is perched a large sculpture of a crowing cockerel. Musing upon the placement and meaning of this symbol, I have realized that it must represent awakening to ideas, facts, and capabilities.
One aspect of the art of Christian Science healing is the awakening of the suffering human consciousness, not only to the beloved, age-old truths of God's goodness and loving-kindness, His power and presence, but also to fresh, spontaneous ideas, to spiritual truths before unrealized. This awakening marks the coming of Christ, the true idea of God.
There is immense impetus in a new idea. We have all felt the onrush of a "good idea." How we exclaim for joy and our day is made radiant and meaningful by the advent of something new, hopeful, and full of possibilities! Especially in our prayers our thought needs to be wide open in grateful acknowledgment of the truths we already know and in glad expectation of new ideas straight from God.
