Meeting Evil Instantly

It is always to our advantage to come to quick terms with the trouble when our daily work and progress are hindered by sickness or discord. In the Sermon on the Mount, Christ Jesus gives us this illustration: "Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison." Matt. 5:25;

Christian Science shows us how to meet evil instantly, how to get swift healing results. Mrs. Eddy says: "Treat a belief in sickness as you would sin, with sudden dismissal. Resist the temptation to believe in matter as intelligent, as having sensation or power." Science and Health, p. 218; We can dismiss an adversary of sickness or sin with suddenness because its only basis is a false belief, and in the light of Truth's allness the adversary's falseness and nothingness are evident.

God is ever-present Life, Truth, and Love, which are expressed by man, our real spiritual selfhood, in harmonious activity and with infinite ability. An adversary can disorder and disarm us only when we permit worldly things instead of Truth to influence our thought. Realizing God's law of ever-present harmony enables us to destroy the belief that an adversary is anything more than the objectification of mortal mind, the result of believing in something apart from God.
