Christian Science came into my life when I was three and went to live with a grandmother after my parents' divorce. I was emotionally upset because of the turmoil, but my grandmother was very patient and loving in turning my thought to God as my true Father-Mother and teaching me of His infinite love and care. I was immediately enrolled in a Christian Science Sunday School, where I continued to learn and apply the rules of Christian Science.

During my youth I experienced much protection and many healings. Mumps, ringworm, and an acute case of appendicitis (diagnosed by a doctor called for by a non-Scientist member of the family) were all healed easily and quickly. The last was an instantaneous healing brought about with the help of a practitioner who had been called after the doctor had said that an operation was necessary.

When I was in my late teens, an abscess manifested itself in the back of the mouth, where the jawbones connect. My face appeared quite swollen, and the abscess drained continually for two days. It was impossible for me either to eat or talk, and the pain was quite intense. Finally, after a sleepless night and two days of suffering, I went early to the office where I was working to phone a practitioner. Somehow I was able to let her know my need, and she spoke to me for about five or ten minutes, declaring truths of God and man. When my employer entered, I hung up and proceeded with my business.
