Many years ago, when a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy was presented to my wife, I read it out of curiosity. At the time I was suffering from an attack of a recurring sinus condition so severe that at its worst I cared little whether I lived or died. Although I grasped little of the meaning, I continued to read until I had finished the book, when, to my amazement, I realized the sinus condition was gone. It has not returned in the past forty years.

After the depression of 1929, we were in a desperate financial situation. It had reached a point where there was little money even to feed my wife and two young children. We had received a notice of eviction from our heavily mortgaged home, with no way to turn for material aid and no place to go. One evening, in desperation, I was led to declare aloud, "God, I have done all I can; now it's up to You."

With these words, I felt a wonderful sense of calm. I knew then that our human needs were to be met, but not how. Light came the next morning when, on the train to the city, an acquaintance from a distant part of our village told me of a position in my line of work which had just been vacated. With his personal help and recommendation I suddenly found myself gainfully and pleasantly employed.
