Christian Science Church Center
PROGRESS REPORT No. 8
Christian Scientists visiting Boston can now hear progress on the Christian Science Church Center project as well as see it. Foundation work begun last July for the new 26-story Administration Building is moving rapidly toward completion. The steady hammering of the pile driver echoes almost daily throughout The Mother Church area as long steel pipes, over a foot in diameter, are driven down to bedrock 180 feet below ground. The last of 464 deep-bearing piles will be sunk and filled with concrete during the remaining winter months.
In the meantime, architects, engineers, and the office of the Development Consultant are moving ahead with final working drawings and specifications for the entire Church Center complex, including the Colonnade and Sunday School buildings. Construction contracts will be awarded in April, 1968. Ground-breaking is scheduled for May.
Those who treasure the present Church Park will be pleased to know that trees and shrubbery are being carefully saved for future plantings.
