Christian Science brought the healing touch of the Christ into our home when our children were small. I sought the help of a Christian Science practitioner when a physician predicted dire results if I did not have an operation. I had had a similar experience a few years before, and the memory of the illness, pain, and long hospitalization was very frightening to me, a young mother.

The practitioner's healing prayers, as well as her tender love, patience and strength, saw me through many months of learning to know God and to trust Him completely. The result was a happy healing experience. Then by "precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little" (Isa. 28:10), the Christ became the head of the household.

It was not too long before there was an opportunity to test what was being revealed to me about God. In the middle of the night I awoke to hear our young daughter crying pitifully. Her room adjoined ours, and I was able to reach her quickly without disturbing anyone. When I picked her up, she was sobbing so that I could just make out that her ear hurt her. For the moment I was so overcome with fear that I could not think.
