Recognizing Man's True Nature

Christian Scientists are often heard speaking of man's "true" nature. They refer to the "real" man and his spiritual perfection. This concept is quite contrary to the mortal sense of existence human beings appear to experience. Just what is this real man? How can one effectively identify himself with such a spiritual nature and experience it?

That man has a spiritual identity is not a philosophical theory. It is a sound, demonstrable fact. The Bible tells us that God, perfect, complete Spirit, "created man in his own image." Gen. 1:27; A Christian Scientist would follow this fact to its logical conclusion—man's complete, spiritual perfection. Generally, though, people are engulfed in material concepts and assume man's basic existence to be mortal.

Enlightened with the Christ, Truth, Jesus came to mankind to lead them out of their false beliefs. "To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth." John 18:37; He demanded that men acknowledge their spiritual nature. He commanded, "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect." Matt. 5:48; But mankind lost sight of much of the spiritual import of his teachings until just over one hundred years ago, when Mrs. Eddy discovered Christian Science and revealed once again the true, spiritual nature of man.
