I did not begin to study Christian Science for a healing, but I was very grateful to know where to turn when I needed help. My first healing was that of gallstones. I had a sudden painful attack. After a Christian Science practitioner had been asked to give me treatment, I went to bed and slept until morning, when I woke up free. The family had planned a picnic the next day. I went, and I ate everything that was served, without ill effects. This was many years ago, and I have had no return of the trouble since. For this I am very grateful.

When we were rearing our two sons, I was very happy to have Christian Science. Our oldest son had a beautiful healing in connection with his adenoids and tonsils. My husband was not a Christian Scientist and had taken the boy to a doctor, who said that in the spring the boy was to go back and have his adenoids and tonsils removed.

One night when the child was having trouble breathing, his father wanted me to do something about it. I told him I had called a practitioner for help. He asked, "How does she know the trouble he is having now?" So I knew I had to do some prayerful work. As I opened Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I saw the definition of "oil" on page 592. I analyzed each of the following words which it contains: "Consecration; charity; gentleness; prayer; heavenly inspiration."
