Becoming a Christian Scientist
Christ Jesus was a Christian Scientist beyond our present human conception. To him Science was divinely natural. To us, however, it is achieved only as we put off the old man of this world and put on the new man of spiritual being. In other words, we "must be born again." John 3:7; Human birth cannot bring us into the spiritual understanding of Christian Science, just as death cannot take us out of it.
Becoming a Christian Scientist is a continuing experience here and hereafter. We turn consciously and constantly from the often all-absorbing dream of physical sense to a spiritual sense of life and love. We keep the high goal of perfection always before us. It cannot be said that we have reached this goal until all mortal consciousness has been replaced with the Mind of Christ.
Mrs. Eddy states: "The new birth is not the work of a moment. It begins with moments, and goes on with years; moments of surrender to God, of childlike trust and joyful adoption of good; moments of self-abnegation, self-consecration, heaven-born hope, and spiritual love."
