God... sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins (I John 4:10)
For the Greek word hilasmos, here translated "propitiation," Goodspeed offers the rendering "an atoning sacrifice." The New English Bible refers to God as "sending his Son as the remedy for the defilement of our sins."
