Progress in Business

Some individuals in the business world adopt the attitude that they must gain and prosper by any means, however unfair or immoral, and without regard for others. This endeavor to outpace a competitor or business associate is regarded by many as a fair and legitimate means of progressing in the business world. It does not require much perception to recognize that this attitude is based on a selfish and materialistic outlook. It leads to discord and inharmony for the individuals concerned and never brings a lasting reward to the perpetrator.

Many business and professional organizations have laid down standards of behavior or codes of conduct, and these standards and codes are often a moral force and of benefit when applied by the individual for whom they have been prepared.

In the last analysis, however, the standard of conduct in business is the responsibility of the individual. It is becoming widely recognized that the mental approach to any problem determines the outcome thereof. It is necessary, therefore, to have a standard of mental approach which involves an acknowledgment of God as all-powerful and of man in His image and likeness, with a corresponding rejection of any false suggestions or mental pictures which are unlike that standard. This understanding spiritualizes thought, and through the study of the Bible in conjunction with the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, it will be learned that what is understood to be true spiritually is the determining factor in resolving business as well as other problems.
