As a student of Christian Science, not a member of The Mother Church...

As a student of Christian Science, not a member of The Mother Church or of a branch church, I am studying Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and following the weekly Lesson-Sermons, outlined in the Quarterly. As such a student, I have enjoyed many and varied benefits, physical, mental, emotional; but most of all spiritual.

On a trip to the university library, during the time I was writing a term paper, I twisted my ankle, and my entire right side from foot to head suffered a severe wrenching, forcing me down to the ground. The foot and ankle were very painful, and for the moment I was not able to get up. In a few minutes, however, I was able to get up and hobble to a nearby bench, where I sat for five or six minutes declaring the truths of being I had learned through daily study of Science and Health. I was then able to cross the street to the library and continue my work; however, walking was painful. When I returned home that afternoon, a badly swollen and discolored foot and ankle were causing me to limp. When I tried to put on a pair of dress shoes, I was unable to do so. Instead, I had to wear a canvas house shoe.

By evening the ankle had become so stiff that walking was almost impossible, and I called a practitioner. When I told him what had happened and how necessary it was for me to be able to get to the library the next morning, he reminded me of the fact that man reflects God and that since God could not fall, His true reflection, man, could not possibly have done so. The practitioner left me with less fear of the condition and more faith in spiritual reality.
