The Prayer That Heals
Christian Scientists are not specially favored above any other people; but that their prayers are highly effective, even approaching very often what seem to be miraculous demonstrations of divine power, is being proved in their daily life, in sickness as well as in health.
Students of Christian Science gain through their study of the Bible and the writings of Mrs. Eddy a spiritual understanding of what contitutes true prayer, as Christ Jesus and his followers so effectively utilized it centuries ago. On the first page of the remarkable chapter on Prayer in Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy writes, "The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God,—a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love." Science and Health, p. 1;
Prayer based on blind belief in God lacks the necessary confidence in Him; whereas a spiritual understanding of God as all-powerful, all-intelligent, all-loving, and ever present bestows a faith that cannot be shaken. Christ Jesus had this understanding faith, hence his wonderful demonstrations over evil in all its forms.
