Sometime ago my face, arms, and hands were burned in a gas explosion and also my hair was singed. Although it was a terrifying experience, my first thought was to call a practitioner. Immediately another thought came to me, "This is your opportunity."
I accepted the challenge and worked prayerfully with the truths contained in this passage from Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 376): "Because the so-called material body is a mental concept and governed by mortal mind, it manifests only what that so-called mind expresses. Therefore the efficient remedy is to destroy the patient's false belief by both silently and audibly arguing the true facts in regard to harmonious being,—representing man as healthy instead of diseased, and showing that it is impossible for matter to suffer, to feel pain or heat, to be thirsty or sick."
I declared these truths with great emphasis and held particularly to the facts that it is impossible for matter to suffer or to feel pain or heat. In a surprisingly short time I was free from all distress and was able to relax and go to sleep. Next day the effects of the burns were still apparent, but I continued to apply the truth I had learned in Christian Science. On the following day all traces of the experience had disappeared.
